Imagine Worlds: Ikons of Memory
Exhibition of Digital Art on Metal by Marguerite Swann

      a

From my own situation of limit comes intense longing for ‘lived life’,
connection and transcendence. These densely lived moments of experience,
imagination and contemplation become glowing sources of creation.
The images are ikons of these potent but transient moments,
relived in the imagination and inner life. As they reside there they
begin to represent ‘soul states’, changing and morphing, but always alive.
This is what my art is about in these images now printed on metal,
from mixed media collage and photography.

ART AND ANTHROPOLOGY : DRAWINGS AND ARTEFACTS

My work is about the relationship between people and objects, particularly the point where the object breaks and/or is discarded, and so passes from possession to artefact, and the human presence is signified by its absence.

Exhibition of Mokuhanga
Five Contemporary Print Artisits

Bringing together the work of five different nationalities of mokuhanga artists for the first time in Australia,
this exhibition offers a rare glimpse of the range and source of contemporary mokuhanga.
It (literally wood block print) is the traditional water based printing technique,
more commonly seen in museums as Ukiyo-e. Almost identical tools,
materials and techniques are used to this day in a variety of formats and approaches,
to produce these beautiful works.

The log had floated onto a beach; even from a distance it had the feeling of a nude.
Daphne, a nymph who transformed herself into a laurel tree to escape the amorous Apollo.
Homage to the Hellenistic nudes with their gossamer use of drapery.
The figure is naked but still covered.
I like the layered morphing from tree to figure. It seems that our mind accumulates the changed state, but never entirely. The original tree is still imbued in the sculpture.
